Who buys junk cars in Chicago and the nearby suburbs?
Junk My Car Inc does. We're junk car buyers for Chicago and the suburbs west, southwest and south of it, from Oak Park and La Grange to the Palos area, Plainfield and Calumet City, plus Northwest Indiana as far as Gary. Any car, in any condition, with or without keys. We tow for free and pay you when the truck loads the car.
That's the whole business: we buy cars that no longer make sense to fix, and we come and get them. You don't need to drive anywhere, clean anything or strip parts off. You tell us about the car, we call back with a number, and if you say yes we pick a time that suits you.
What we buy

Cars that won't start
Dead engine, seized transmission, no keys. If it sits, we can load it.
Wrecked and stripped cars
Accident damage, missing parts or a car someone gave up on halfway through a repair.
Fire, flood and storm damage
Burned interiors, flooded engines, a tree on the roof. Talk to your insurer first, then us.
Trucks, SUVs and work vans
Not just sedans. Pickups, minivans, cargo vans and SUVs in any condition.
| Condition | Do we buy it? | What helps on the call |
|---|---|---|
| Runs but needs costly repairs | Yes | What's wrong with it, if you know |
| Won't start, or no keys | Yes | Whether the wheels roll |
| Wrecked or partly stripped | Yes | Which parts are missing |
| Fire, flood or storm damage | Yes | Whether an insurance claim is open |
| No title in hand | Depends on the papers and the state | Every paper you do have |
Where we buy junk cars
We cover the whole of Chicago and the suburbs west, southwest and south of it, plus a slice of Northwest Indiana. Each town we serve has its own page with the parking and dead-car rules that decide how fast a car needs to go: Oak Park's 2:30 a.m. street ban, for one, or the Indiana paperwork rules on the Gary page.
- The city: any of its 77 community areas.
- West, along Roosevelt, Cermak and Ogden: the near west suburbs, then western DuPage out to Route 83 and I-355.
- Southwest: the Archer Avenue towns along I-55, and the Palos area from 95th Street down to 143rd.
- Will County and the I-55 towns, up and down the Des Plaines valley.
- South: the Calumet side from Blue Island to Lansing, and 147th Street to US 30, Midlothian to University Park.
- Northwest Indiana, as far as Gary and the towns touching it.
Not sure which group your street falls in? The areas page lists every town we serve with a line on each, and the places we don't.
No title? Tell us what you do have
The title is the cleanest way to sell, but a missing one doesn't always end the conversation. What happens next depends on the state the car is in.
Illinois: list the papers you hold. Illinois rules decide which of them work for a scrap sale, and we confirm on the call, before anyone drives out.
Indiana: a recycler needs either the title or a BMV certificate of authority, whatever the car's age, and a car under 15 model years old can't be bought with neither.
The details, including duplicate titles and the Indiana rules, are in our guide on who buys junk cars without a title.
How you're paid, and the fine print
Paid at pickup. Cash, Zelle, Cash App or another app payment, handed over as the car is loaded.
Offers don't expire. Take the time you need; the number holds.
Several cars, one visit. Tell us how many and we'll plan the truck.
Shops and lots are fine. Repair shops, apartment lots and HOA parking, with the owner's OK.

What sellers want to know first
Pickup and payment
Is the tow really free?
Yes. Towing costs you nothing and nothing is deducted from the offer to cover it. The number we quote is the number you're paid.
How and when do I get paid?
At pickup, when the car is loaded. You can take cash, Zelle, Cash App or another app payment, whichever suits you.
Papers
Do you buy cars without a title?
Sometimes. In Illinois, tell us what papers you hold, such as registration, a bill of sale or an insurance card; state rules decide which work for a scrap sale, and we confirm on the call. In Indiana we need the title or a BMV certificate of authority. Our title guide explains both.
Scheduling
Will you take more than one car?
Yes. One visit can collect several vehicles, so list them all when you ask for the offer.
Does your offer expire?
No. The offer we give you holds with no time limit, so you can take a few days to find the papers or clear the garage.
When do you answer calls and pick up?
From 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Central, seven days a week. Same-day pickup is often possible.
Will your truck collect from a repair shop or an apartment lot?
Yes, from both, as long as the shop or the property manager is fine with a tow truck coming in.
From our advice pages
Ready to see your offer?
Four details about the car, three about you. Calls and pickups run 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days.
