Bedford Park counted 602 residents at the 2020 census. It is an industrial suburb: a small pocket of homes, with heavy industry spreading to the east and a smaller amount to the west. Two landmarks stand out, the Ingredion corn plant and, beside it, the Institute for Food Safety and Health. Junk My Car Inc collects from the homes, and from business lots when the owner says yes.
Inside the 65th to 77th Street box
Section 10-12-17(A) of the village code bans parking on every street in the area bounded by Cicero Avenue on the east, Harlem Avenue on the west, 65th Street on the north and 77th Street on the south. The only exception is a set of listed 30-minute spaces for trucks and other second-division vehicles. Cicero itself is off limits between 65th and 67th, and semitrailers and garbage containers can’t be dropped on any street.
So if a car quits at the curb inside that box, it can’t wait there for anyone. Push it into a driveway or onto a lot whose owner agrees, then call. Alleys don’t work as a holding spot either: a car there has to leave 10 feet clear and can’t block a driveway, and an unattended car that gets in the way of traffic isn’t allowed in a residential alley at all.
Five days outdoors, then a nuisance
Chapter 12 of Title 9 deals with junked vehicles. Under 9-12-1, keeping an old, unused, stripped or junked car that isn’t safe to drive outside a building for five days or more is a nuisance, plated or not. Non-emergency repairs done outdoors in the residential section count too, so rebuilding an engine on the driveway is out.
Section 9-12-2 puts the duty to fix it on the lot owner, the tenants and the car’s owner together, and gives two ways out: move the car into a fully enclosed building, or move it out of the village. If nobody acts, 9-12-4 lets the village remove the car, bill the owners and sell it.
Selling to us is the second way out. We buy junk cars in Bedford Park as they sit, with or without keys, and nothing is taken off the offer for the tow.
Driveways, plant lots and snow days
Of the village’s 202 occupied homes, about 85 percent are owner-occupied and nearly all are detached houses, so a pickup here usually means a driveway or a garage. A car stranded on someone else’s land is a different case: without the owner’s consent, police can order it towed. If yours stalled in a plant or warehouse lot, ask the owner to let it wait.
Snow rules split the village in two. In the residential section, a 2-inch snowfall clears the streets from 9 a.m. to noon unless they’ve been plowed; everywhere else, parking stops after 2 inches until the plows have been through. Residents’ cars that use or park on village streets and alleys also need the wheel-tax sticker on the lower right of the windshield.
Booking from Bedford Park
Use our quote form with the year, make and model, and we call back within 15 minutes. The offer stays open with no deadline, and you’re paid when the car is loaded, in cash or through Zelle, Cash App or a similar app. For papers, tell us what you hold, such as a registration, a bill of sale or an insurance card. Illinois rules set which of those support a scrap sale, and we check that with you before the truck is booked. Still deciding? Our guide on what to do with a scrap car lays out the choices.
I-55 runs through the village, with Archer Road, Harlem Avenue, Cicero Avenue and 79th Street as the main surface roads, and Pace buses serve the area. Burbank borders Bedford Park on the south, and we buy junk cars in Burbank as well. Bridgeview shares a border too; see junk car buyers in Bridgeview. North up Harlem is Summit, and southwest along Archer is Justice. Every town we serve is on the areas page.
