More than half of Crestwood’s homes are in buildings with five or more units, and only about 42 percent are single-unit houses (ACS 2020 to 2024). That’s an unusual mix for the south suburbs, and it means a junk car here is as likely to be parked in a condo or apartment lot as on a driveway. We buy junk cars in Crestwood from both. For a building lot, check with the manager or association first and tell us which space the car is in.
The notice of impending tow
Crestwood’s nuisance list, Section 94.081(K), covers any inoperable motor vehicle left on public or private property where the public can see it. “Inoperable” means the engine, wheels or other parts have been removed, altered or damaged for seven days or more, so the car can’t run. Short repairs of up to three days in a row are exempt, and so are cars kept inside a building, operable historic vehicles at least 25 years old, and junk businesses.
When police or code enforcement find one, they issue a notice of impending tow, and the car is scheduled to go on the 10th day after that notice. If one of those is on your windshield, send us the details today; we call back within 15 minutes of a form request.
Two related rules sit in Section 94.081(J). Parking or storing any vehicle in a front, side or rear setback on grass or gravel is banned, and an owner’s own repairs outside a building are limited to three consecutive days.
2 a.m., snow and the street
The street is no place to wait it out. Section 77.02(Q) bans parking on any public way from 2 to 6 a.m. Once snow on the street passes an inch, Section 77.04(D) limits stops to 3 minutes for passengers or 30 minutes for property, from the start of the snowfall until 8 hours after it ends, and longer if plowing is still under way. Temporary signs can also clear a street for cleaning. Only passenger cars with seven seats or fewer may park on the street beyond loading time, and you can’t leave a car there to show it for sale.
Cicero, Cal Sag Road and the 127th Street bridge
Routes 50 and 83 share Cicero Avenue from 147th Street in Midlothian up to 127th Street in Alsip, passing through Crestwood on the way. Route 83 then heads northwest on Cal Sag Road toward Palos Heights, and 127th Street crosses the Cal-Sag Channel on a bridge inside the village. The closest Tri-State access is the Cicero interchange at 127th in Alsip. Crestwood has no train station; Midlothian’s Rock Island stop is the nearest, and Pace routes 383 and 385 run up to Midway.
Neighbours and paperwork
Alsip lies north of Crestwood and Oak Forest south, with Midlothian to the southeast. Junk My Car Inc buys in all three: Alsip, Oak Forest and Midlothian. Northwest along Cal Sag Road, we’re also junk car buyers in Palos Heights. The full list of towns is on the areas page.
