The Cal-Sag Channel cuts across Alsip. Most of the village sits north of it, and the Chippewa Ridge subdivision, built on the old Alsip Nursery land, lies southwest of the water. Industry takes up a lot of the map, from Griffith Laboratories’ international headquarters to a Coca-Cola bottling plant and the Alsip MiniMill, but the housing is mixed: about 54 percent detached houses and about a third in buildings of five or more units. As junk car buyers in Alsip, Junk My Car Inc picks up on both sides of the channel, from driveways and apartment lots alike, with no tow fee and payment when the car is loaded.
A dead car belongs in the garage
Alsip’s Chapter 19 has a full article on abandoned vehicles, and its definition (Section 19-42) is wide. It takes in a car without a current valid license, one that’s wrecked, dismantled, inoperative or junked, and any car with its engine, wheels or parts off for seven days so it can’t run. Cars kept in a building, operable historic cars over 25 years old and cars at wrecking businesses are exempt.
Section 19-43 calls every such vehicle a nuisance, on public or private property. Section 19-44 then answers the residential question directly: unregistered, inoperable or abandoned vehicles must be garaged. If yours won’t fit in the garage, selling it is the practical way out, and we buy junk cars in Alsip whatever shape they’re in.
The clocks are short as well. No abandoned car or its parts may sit on a street, or in public view on any property, for more than seven days (Section 19-45). A car in major disassembly gets the same seven days on residential property, and a car under repair there has to be registered to the owner or a family member (Section 19-46).
Parking: what’s banned and what isn’t
Alsip has no village-wide overnight street ban, since its night-parking sections were repealed. Yards are a different matter, and the questions below cover them.
Snow routes come in two tiers under Section 19-91. Primary routes must be empty for 12 hours after a snowfall of an inch or more; every other street clears for 24 hours after 3 inches, and police can tow cars that block the plows. Residents also need a current village vehicle sticker to use the streets and alleys (Section 19-57).
Cicero, 127th and the Tri-State
Cicero Avenue carries Route 50 through the village and shares it with Route 83 for a stretch, and 127th Street is part of Route 83 too. The Tri-State (I-294) runs inside the village limits, with its Cicero Avenue interchange reached by way of 127th Street. Pulaski Road, Kedzie and Ridgeland Avenues and 111th Street are the other main roads, and Pace routes 383 and 385 serve the village.
Papers, and the towns on every side
Fill in the quote form and we’ll ring you back within 15 minutes. If the title is lost, tell us what you do have, perhaps a registration card, an insurance card or a bill of sale. Illinois law decides which of those can support a scrap sale, and we’ll confirm it on that call. Our guide to who buys junk cars without a title goes into more depth.
Alsip borders Oak Lawn on the north, and we buy junk cars in Oak Lawn as well. Crestwood is to the south, Palos Heights to the west, and on the east side Alsip touches Blue Island, Merrionette Park and Robbins. Every town we serve is grouped by area.
