Maywood’s parking rules are written street by street, which makes them easy to break by accident. A car that dies on the wrong block can earn a ticket the same night, and three unpaid citations can lead to a wheel boot. If you just want to know how selling works, our Chicago-area junk car buying page covers it. Here is what’s specific to Maywood.
Streets where nothing parks overnight
The police department’s own list names streets where there is no overnight parking at all, any night of the year:
| Street | Where |
|---|---|
| 1st Avenue, 5th Avenue, 9th Avenue | Entire village |
| Lake Street, St. Charles Road, Chicago Avenue | Entire village |
| Washington Blvd, Madison, Harrison | Entire village |
| Bataan Avenue, Roosevelt Road | Entire village |
| 17th Avenue | 1000 South to the village limits |
| 19th Avenue | 100 South to 1000 South |
On every other street, the rule is no parking from 2 to 5 a.m. (Section 72.27). Snow tightens it: at 2 inches the snow routes clear, at 3 inches no public street may hold a parked car, and ticket-and-tow can start about an hour after the threshold is reached.
Why a permit won’t rescue a dead car
Section 72.36 makes it unlawful to park an inoperable or abandoned vehicle on any street, alley or public right of way, and the last registered owner is presumed responsible. Code enforcement treats abandoned or inoperative cars and trucks as public nuisances. So even with a permit in hand, a car that doesn’t run has no legal place on a Maywood street. The real options are a garage, your own driveway, or a sale.
That’s where we come in. You describe the car on our quote form, we call back with a number, and the number doesn’t lapse if you need a few days to clear the garage or find the keys.
What sort of property the car is on
About 62 percent of Maywood homes are single-family detached houses, and the rest are in two-flats, small apartment buildings and larger complexes. Single-family driveways are the easy case. For a shared lot, get the building owner or manager to agree to the tow first, then tell us which entrance to use.
Maywood cross streets
The Eisenhower Expressway splits the village north from south, with the Metra Union Pacific West line and Maywood station in the business district. First Avenue (Route 171) is the main north-south road, and Loyola University Medical Center sits at its corner with Roosevelt. A cross street plus the house number is all the driver needs.
Papers and next steps
Have the title? Good. If not, tell us which papers you do have. Illinois rules decide which ones work for a scrap sale, and we’ll say on the call whether yours do. Our article on who can take a car with no title explains the options.
A short drive southwest, Westchester has its own rules about keeping a junk car in view, set out on our Westchester page. East past Forest Park you reach Oak Park, further southeast is Berwyn, and down First Avenue to the south we also buy junk cars in Lyons. For anywhere else, check the towns we cover.
