What happens after Orland Park posts a tow notice on a dead car?

The tow is set for the tenth day after the notice, and the owner can ask for a hearing. Selling before then ends the matter. Junk My Car Inc buys the car anywhere in Orland Park, tows it free from a driveway or garage and pays you when it's loaded. Same-day pickup is often possible.

Orland Park takes some covering: 58,703 people at the 2020 Census on 22.31 square miles, mostly in Cook County with a small piece in Will, and I-80 along the southern edge. It’s mainly owner-occupied, and while most homes are single-unit, a good share of those are attached townhomes, about one home in five, with roughly another fifth in buildings of two or more units. So pickups split between private driveways and association lots. We buy junk cars in Orland Park from both, and Junk My Car Inc tows at no cost and pays when the car is on the truck.

Ten days from notice to tow

Section 6-2-2-11 makes it a nuisance to keep an inoperable car in public view, on public or private property. Inoperable means the engine, wheels or other parts have been removed or altered so it can’t run under its own power for seven days or more. There’s a short 3-day exemption for repairs, and a car kept inside a building isn’t covered.

Enforcement moves quickly. Police or Code Enforcement issue a notice of impending tow, and the tow is scheduled for the tenth day after it. You can ask for a tow hearing. You can also sell the car before that date: request an offer and we call back within 15 minutes.

A day in one spot, less in snow

Under Section 9-7-1, no vehicle may stand at any place for more than 24 hours, and vehicles with trailers, or longer than 22 feet, can’t be left on streets or alleys at all. A car that dies at the curb has a day, not a week.

Snow cuts that further. Once snow on a street passes 2 inches, Section 9-7-6 limits parking anywhere to 3 minutes for passengers or 30 minutes for loading, from when it starts until 8 hours after it stops, and until removal is done; police can tow. Parts of Old Orland are resident-only areas with their own decal (Section 9-7-8). The village vehicle sticker, though, is gone, along with the rest of the vehicle-license chapter.

Finding you in a big village

La Grange Road (US 45) is the main north-south road, and I-80 meets it at exit 145. 159th Street carries US 6 across the village, Route 7 runs through and crosses both, and Harlem Avenue (Route 43) runs near the east border. 167th Street lies entirely inside Orland Park. Landmarks help the driver: Orland Square Mall, Orland Park Crossing, the Main Street Triangle at 143rd and La Grange, Lake Sedgewick and McGinnis Slough. Metra’s SouthWest Service stops at 143rd, 153rd and 179th Streets.

When the title is missing, tell us what you have instead, whether that’s a registration, a bill of sale or an insurance card. Illinois rules decide which of those works for a scrap sale, and we confirm that before the pickup is booked. If hail or a flood is what finished the car, read our storm-damaged car tips before you call the insurer back.

Orland Park borders Homer Glen on the west, where we also buy junk cars in Homer Glen. To the north are Palos Park and Palos Heights, and southeast is Tinley Park. The rest of the towns we cover are a click away.

Orland Park questions

How long can a car sit in one spot in Orland Park?

No more than 24 hours. Section 9-7-1 bars standing any vehicle at any place for longer than that, so a car that died at the curb is on a short clock.

Do you pick up from townhome and condo lots?

Yes. About one Orland Park home in five is a single-unit attached house, and roughly another fifth are in buildings of two or more units. Clear the pickup with your association or manager and tell us which space the car is in.

Is there a grace period for repairs before a car counts as inoperable?

A short one. The code allows 3 days for repairs, and a car kept inside a building isn't covered. Past that, a car that can't run under its own power for 7 days or more is inoperable, and keeping it in public view is a nuisance.
