Romeoville’s code has a line that matters more than most to households with three cars and a dead one: no more than two vehicles from the same address may park on a village street at once (Section 73.09). When the dead car takes a driveway spot, the working cars spill onto the street, and the limit bites. Clearing the dead one is the fix, and it’s what Junk My Car Inc’s junk car buyers do here.
Garage or gone
Romeoville’s zoning code (Section 157.026) says an inoperative or partially dismantled vehicle may not sit on any residential property unless it’s inside an enclosed garage. Business districts get the same ban on outdoor storage of damaged, inoperable or unregistered vehicles, except where a property is approved for it. Under Section 92.100, police and enforcement officers inspect the village for inoperable and abandoned vehicles on private and public property from time to time.
So a car that has been dead in the driveway since spring is not a private matter in Romeoville. It’s something an inspector can write up.
Snow days
When 2 inches or more falls within 24 hours, normal street parking stops until removal is done, and cars may park only on the odd-numbered side on odd dates and the even side on even dates, with the day starting at 6 a.m. A violating car gets a ticket and a notice-of-intent-to-tow sticker, and it can be towed 24 hours later. A car that won’t start can’t follow those rules at all.
How the roads work
Weber Road is I-55’s exit 263, rebuilt as a diverging diamond in 2022. Route 53, which carries Historic Route 66 and is called Independence Boulevard in the village, runs close to the Des Plaines River on the east side. The Metra Heritage Corridor stops at Romeoville station, and Lewis University is in the village too. From the north, the I-55 exit at Route 53 and Bolingbrook Drive is the other way in.
Most Romeoville homes are owner-occupied, and about one in six is a townhouse or other attached home. In a townhouse lot, check the association’s rules on tow trucks before the pickup and tell us where to park.
The sale itself
Fill in the quote form: year, make, model and title status, then where the car is. We call back with the offer. Have papers ready, or tell us what you’re missing; Illinois rules decide which papers work for a scrap sale, and we’ll confirm on the call. If you’re still weighing scrap yards and private buyers, read your options for getting rid of a junk car first.
North of Romeoville, Bolingbrook gives a dead car only five days outdoors; see junk car pickup in Bolingbrook. West across the village line, we also buy junk cars in Plainfield. Up I-55 to the northeast are Woodridge and, across the Des Plaines, Lemont. All the towns we cover are listed by corridor.
