Woodridge was incorporated in 1959 with fewer than 500 people, and most of its homes were built after the 1950s. Today it has about 34,000 residents, and far more of them live in apartment and condo buildings than in Romeoville, Plainfield, Lemont or Homer Glen. Junk My Car Inc buys junk cars in all of it, from single-family streets to the big complexes. The village’s parking code shapes how.
Grass is not an option
Section 6-5-12 limits off-street parking in residential districts to an improved driveway or an enclosed garage. Front, side and rear yards are out. If your dead car has been shoved onto the grass beside the driveway to free up space, it’s already in breach.
Section 6-10-2 adds the abandoned-vehicle rule. A car in disrepair that can’t be driven, or one unmoved for seven days that looks deserted, can’t be left on public or private property in public view except on the owner’s own property, and police can order it removed from private property after seven days.
Nights on the street need permission
No car may park on a Woodridge street from 2 to 6 a.m. without police permission (Section 6-5-4). Permission is granted one night at a time, three nights in any 30 days at most, and never when snow is expected or has passed 2 inches. A car that won’t start burns through those three nights fast.
Apartment and condo lots
About 43 percent of Woodridge homes are in buildings with two or more units, and close to 40 percent are in buildings with five or more. If your car is in one of those lots, it’s still an easy pickup. Get the property manager’s OK for the tow, mention any gate or permit-only area, and we’ll do the rest. Commercial vehicles above B plates can’t park in residential districts except while serving the property, and a short pickup visit is exactly that.
Getting here
The village sits just north of the I-55 and Route 53 junction, with I-355 on the west side and a 75th Street exit. Main Street runs off Route 53. There’s no Metra station in the village; BNSF commuter trains stop in nearby Lisle and Downers Grove. If the car is at a business in the International Center, the big industrial area in the far south of the village, give us the company name with the address.
Woodridge knows storm damage first hand: the EF-3 tornado of June 20, 2021 hit 225 homes here and in the suburbs alongside.
Ready? Send us the car’s details. If hail, a falling limb or a flooded street did the damage, our guide to storm-damaged cars covers insurance first.
