Almost as many Blue Island homes sit in multi-unit buildings as in detached houses: 45.9 percent against 44.3 percent, with three in ten in buildings of five units or more and about 5 percent mobile homes (ACS 2020 to 2024). Only about half of households own their place. So a dead car here is often in an apartment lot or behind a building rather than in a private driveway. Junk My Car Inc is set up for that: we’re junk car buyers in Blue Island who load from lots, alleys and driveways alike, and the tow never comes off your price.
The 2 a.m. ban and the city sticker
Section 72.15 bans parking on residential-district streets from 2 to 6 a.m. The exceptions are a car with a valid city vehicle sticker or a permanent overnight permit, and a visitor’s car registered for temporary overnight parking, which is allowed up to 7 times a month. Section 73.02 requires every resident who owns a vehicle to buy the annual city license, so a forgotten car with a lapsed sticker has no right to the curb after 2 a.m.
The blocks along Western Avenue and Olde Western Avenue keep a shorter night window of their own. Streets are also off limits while they’re being cleaned, and designated snow routes clear once snow passes 2 inches, with violators liable to be towed.
When Blue Island calls a car abandoned
The definitions in Section 70.003 are broad. A vehicle on a street or lot that is too run-down to drive and looks deserted qualifies, and so does one left unmoved for 24 hours with no plates or valid registration. Section 70.085(B) makes it unlawful to abandon a vehicle or its parts in public view on public or private property, unless the property belongs to the owner. Police can remove the car after 7 days, or straight away if it’s a hazardous, dilapidated vehicle under state law.
That owner’s-property exception doesn’t cover a shared apartment lot. If the car is sitting in a space your landlord controls, it is exposed.
Western Avenue, Gregory Street and six stations
Western Avenue, part of the old Dixie Highway, cuts through the middle of the city. Coming into Blue Island it splits into Western Avenue and Gregory Street, and the two come back together at Burr Oak Avenue. Vincennes, Kedzie, Ashland and Marshfield Avenues are the other main streets, and I-57 passes along the east side. Metra stations make good landmarks: 119th Street, 123rd Street, Prairie Street and Vermont Street on the Rock Island line, plus the Blue Island terminal and Burr Oak on the Metra Electric. The Cal-Sag Channel bridges are another.
Getting the offer, and the towns around Blue Island
We buy junk cars in Blue Island in any condition: cars, pickups, vans, SUVs, with or without keys. Our quote form asks for the year, make and model first, then where the car is; we call back within 15 minutes, and the offer doesn’t expire. Payment is cash, Zelle, Cash App or another app, handed over once the car is on the truck. If the title has gone missing, tell us what paperwork is left: a registration, an old bill of sale, an insurance card. Which of those an Illinois scrap sale can rely on depends on state rules, so we settle it on the phone before anyone drives out. Our guide to selling without a title explains more.
Blue Island borders Chicago’s Morgan Park to the north. South of the city we buy in Dixmoor, southeast is Riverdale, and to the southwest and west we cover Midlothian and Alsip. Blue Island’s other neighbours, and every town past them, are on the areas page.
