Glenwood is a village with woods on almost every side. Forest preserves wrap around it, and the Glenwood Shoreline, an old shoreline of ancient Lake Chicago, runs through the middle. About 8,700 people live inside, and the main way in is Halsted Street (IL-1), with Pace routes 352 and 890 running along it.
Outside a garage or carport, it’s a violation
Glenwood’s rule on dead cars is simple and strict. Sec. 102-435(a) bans parking or storing any inoperable or junk vehicle on private land, and the same goes for a relic, vintage or antique car that isn’t in regular use. Sec. 102-435(b) defines private land as land not enclosed by a garage or carport. In other words, if the car isn’t under a roof, it doesn’t comply.
Enforcement follows a set pattern. Police put a warning sticker on a junk vehicle first. If it hasn’t been moved within 72 hours, a tow sticker follows, along with a fine and possible seizure. That gives you about three days to act once the first sticker appears, and the fastest route is our quote form. A call back comes within 15 minutes, and same-day pickup is often possible.
Nights, snow and the village license
The overnight rule is tied to the sticker. On posted residential parking streets, Sec. 102-440 keeps out any vehicle without a Glenwood registration and village sticker between 1 and 6 a.m. A visitor’s car can be cleared by phoning the police, for up to 7 days, renewable once. Violators are summary nuisance vehicles under an April 2026 ordinance, towed without notice, and the release costs a village fee on top of the tow.
Snow brings a blanket ban. Sec. 102-426 bars parking on any public street for 12 hours after a snowfall of 2 inches or more.
Every motor vehicle a resident owns needs a village license under Sec. 102-542, and a fine applies if it isn’t paid by May 1 or within 30 days of buying the car. The license year ends April 30, so a car you’ve stopped driving still runs up that bill each spring.
Driveways, carports and papers
Glenwood is mostly houses: 80% of homes are detached, and 79% of households own their home (ACS 2020 to 2024). Most pickups here are from driveways, with some from apartment and condo lots once the manager agrees. We tow at no charge and pay you once the car is on the truck, in cash or by Zelle, Cash App or another app, and we buy cars, trucks, vans and SUVs in any condition.
A title isn’t always on hand. Tell us what you do have, perhaps a registration card, a bill of sale or an insurance card, and we’ll check on the call whether Illinois rules let it support a scrap sale. There’s more on that in our no-title guide.
Halsted Street and the roads around it
Besides Halsted Street, the village is crossed by Glenwood-Lansing Road, Glenwood-Chicago Heights Road, Main Street, Cottage Grove Avenue, State Street, Joe Orr Road and 183rd and 187th Streets. Route 394, the Calumet Expressway, passes just outside the limits.
As junk car buyers in Glenwood, we work the neighbouring towns as well: Thornton to the north, Lansing to the northeast and Homewood to the west, and we also buy junk cars in Flossmoor, beyond Homewood. Junk My Car Inc lists every town we serve on one page.
