Picture a Westmont pickup and it’s as likely to be an apartment lot as a driveway. Of the village’s 11,526 housing units, about 41 percent are detached houses, and 43 percent are in buildings with five or more units (ACS 2020 to 2024). The 94-unit Quincy Station building near downtown is a recent example. As junk car buyers in Westmont, Junk My Car Inc works both kinds of address, and the tow is always free.
Apartment and condo lots
A car that dies in a shared lot has a way of becoming the manager’s problem. Before you book, tell the manager or association that a tow truck is coming for your own car, ask which entrance the driver should use, and put that in the pickup notes. If the car is boxed in by others, say so; the driver will need it reachable. Several dead cars in one complex can be collected in a single trip.
The harder part is what to do if the car can’t stay where it is until the pickup. That’s where the village code comes in.
The overnight ban and the 48-hour line
Sec. 78-308(a) bars parking for more than 15 minutes on any public street, parkway, right-of-way or public lot from 2 to 6 a.m. On Blackhawk Drive between Ogden and Chestnut Avenues, the ban runs until 8 a.m. The police chief can grant up to 5 single-evening permits a month, and there’s a quarterly overnight permit for designated public areas, weekdays only. Leave a vehicle in one of those areas for 48 hours or more, though, and Sec. 78-308(b) treats it as storage, which is prohibited.
Snow tightens things again. Once 2 inches or more falls, no one may park on any street until 8 hours after it stops and while removal goes on (Sec. 78-306).
Grass, gravel and cars in public view
For houses, two more sections matter. Sec. 78-317 makes parking on any unpaved surface other than a driveway unlawful, even on your own property, so the side lawn isn’t a parking spot for a dead car. And Sec. 38-82(7) lists junk cars or vehicles not in active use, kept in public view on any premises, as a nuisance. It also covers taking a vehicle apart or painting it outside a structure that hides the work.
In an alley, a parked car has to leave 10 feet clear and keep driveway entrances open (Sec. 78-309).
Ogden Avenue and the roads around it
Ogden Avenue (US 34) runs through the middle of Westmont and meets Route 83 at an interchange. Four expressways box the village in: I-88 above it, I-55 below, I-355 on the west side and the Tri-State on the east. Cass Avenue and the Metra BNSF station make handy landmarks when you describe the address.
If you can’t find the title, gather what you can: registration, bill of sale, insurance card. Illinois rules govern which papers a scrap sale can rest on, and we’ll give you a straight answer on that call before the truck is sent. Our guide to selling a car without its title explains more. The driver settles up when the car is on the bed: cash, or Zelle, Cash App and the like. Send the details through our quote form and the offer holds for as long as you need.
Westmont’s neighbors on our map include Oak Brook to the north and Willowbrook to the southeast. East past Route 83 we buy junk cars in Hinsdale, with Western Springs beyond it. Every town we serve is on one page.
